Increased risk of suicide and self-harm among persons with anti-NMDA receptor encephalitis
The Journal of Neuropsychiatry and Clinical Neurosciences is publishing the article “Suicidal Thoughts and Behaviors in Anti-NMDA Receptor Encephalitis: Psychopathological Features and Clinical Outcomes,” in which a group of leading specialists, including senior author Dr. Jesus Ramirez-Bermudez, collected data from 120 patients and found that 12.5% of patients had suicidal behaviors during early stages of the illness with nearly half of those patients (5.83%) attempting suicide.
This article is presented in association with the Encephalitis Society to help raise awareness of World Encephalitis Day on February 22, 2023.
